Mission
Protect Christian County, LLC was organized to educate the public and work with the Christian County Board, experts, residents and property owners within the county to strengthen ordinances that currently leave citizens vulnerable.
Goals
We want to work with the Christian County Board to protect Christian County by amending its ordinance regulating the siting of wind energy conversion systems (wind turbines) to more adequately protect public health, safety and welfare of the residents and property owners of the county.
The current ordinance regulating wind turbine siting was passed in 2008. Today units are taller and data from existing installations support stronger language. The County Board represents the residents and property owners of the county. Agreements with wind energy companies should be considered only after concerns are addressed and an amended wind ordinance is in place.
Set Back Distances
Reasonable turbine set-back restrictions, which can be waived by any property owner, would help protect residents from noise, shadow flicker. ice-throw and vibration.
Property values
Some living near existing turbines have reported reductions of 20 to 50% in property value. This concerns us.
Decommissioning
Taking down turbines at their end life is expensive… $500,000 by some estimates. We ask for guarantees that the wind farm owners have that money secured.
blinking RED lights
The wind energy folks tell us there is equipment that with FAA approval, will eliminate the need for blinking red lights. That should be required in Christian County.
